Is Scale the Goal?
When I started writing, a typical piece was only read by dozens of people. I remember the day where I wrote a blog post that got 1000 views for the first time, this was a big deal. Then I remember hitting 10,000, then 100,000, then 1 million. Getting 1 million views took the exact same amount of work as getting 10 views. Writing scales, one author can share their ideas with an infinite number of people with extra cost; every person in the world can read my work if they want.
Brokerage services don’t work like this though. It doesn't matter if you’re the best broker in the world with people lining up to hire you, you can only complete a limited number of transactions each year. We have a limited amount of time and bandwidth to provide our services. Maybe the point isn’t to scale though? Do we want 100 clients, or do we want 10?
I chose 10.
I want just a few clients that respect and appreciate the work I do for them. The reality is that you can have 10 clients and make $50,000 per year or you can have 10 clients and make $1,000,000 per year. The quality of the client matters far more than the quantity.
Think about how to improve your client base, what does your ideal client want and how do you become their ideal broker?
Ask yourself that question everyday and take steps to become the type of broker with 10 great clients.
Let’s get to work.
